BIRTH IN SPAIN: WHAT DOES THE INSURANCE COVER?
When planning pregnancy and childbirth in Spain under insurance, I always advise the expectant mother to take out the Sanitas Más Salud insurance policy, which is the most capacious in terms of coverage, does not involve additional surcharges for clinic visits, which a pregnant woman can have a lot.
In the event of pregnancy and childbirth, the following services are covered by such a policy:
hospitalization,
surgical care in case of caesarean section,
gynecological examinations,
epidural anesthesia on request,
4 meals a day during hospitalization for childbirth,
a place for an attendant in the ward,
medicines needed during hospitalization,
supervision of a pediatrician during hospitalization,
in almost all clinics in Spain, in the maternity hospital, a hearing test is performed on the baby before discharge,
heel test for metabolic diseases,
in cases of complications - neonatal resuscitation.
Remember: all of the above procedures for the baby are covered by the mother's policy while the mother and baby are in the clinic. Upon discharge, the baby must issue an independent policy within 30 days or enter it into the parents' insurance. I recommend including the newborn in the parent's insurance before discharge from the clinic!!!

For any Sanitas insurance, there is a waiting period for childbirth - 8 months. That is, at the time of childbirth, a woman must be insured 8 months ago. Then hospitalization and childbirth will be covered by her insurance. It is important to remember this for new clients who do not yet have a policy, but want to give birth to a baby in one of the private clinics in Spain.
